Fairy Camp LA

A blog for Fairy Camp LA, focusing on crafts, music, dancing, nature, fairies, trolls, magic, and other enchanting activities for children.

Another Super Fun day at our From Scratch class!

The kids had to really use their hands and muscles on Saturday – there was a lot to mix, tear, press and squeeze!

Homemade Paper

The kids were fascinated by the story of how paper is made.  We talked about the earth, and how we need to help preserve the trees that make us paper, and why it is so important to recycle.  So important if fact, that we decided to learn how to make our OWN recycled paper!  We did everything they do in a big factory: shred the recycled paper, add water and churn it till it is mush… then we squeeze all the water out of it and leave it to dry.  Presto!  We made paper! (we even added some grass and lavender to make it oh so decorative!).

Homemade Granola

Next up was to make homemade granola – we talked about oats and wheat and where all the ingredients came from.  We mixed all the items by hand, and the children got to pick what to put in their granola – nuts, raisins, fruit, spices, etc.  They are all unique – and all delicious!

Frozen Yogurt

And finally, who could pass up one of the most delicious from scratch items?!  Chocolate Frozen Yogurt!  We churned the ingredients all day in our machine, and at the end of the day got to eat it alongside the granola.   Now that’s the end of a wonderful morning!
